No matter whether in the government or in opposition, the Awami League has contributed the most to political violences in past few decades. From 1991 to 2018, the Awami League was responsible for initiating about 30.2 per cent of the total number of incidents of political violences, according to a stydy committed by Bert Suykens and Mohammad Aynul Islam.
The study, published in Pratichinta magazine's July - September 2022 issue, also shows that 37.7% of those injured during the period were victims of AL-led violence. Again, 22.3% of total deaths resulting from the Awami League-related violence.
On the other hand, the BNP's share was lower; at 25.2%. The percentage of injuries and death due to BNP-related violence was also lower, 34.3% and 15.6%, respectively.
